Our NDC strategy
February 26, 2026
As we get closer to our launch date, we wanted to share the first phase of WestJet’s NDC strategy. Below you’ll find more details on the progress we’ve already made in our journey, the benefits of adoption and what you can expect next.
Built with you, not for you
From the beginning, our approach to NDC has been grounded in partnership. We’ve invested in product enhancements that support modernized pricing for fares and ancillaries, as well as improved servicing capabilities such as automated exchanges and True Reshop. Throughout this journey, your feedback has played a critical role in shaping our roadmap — helping us focus on what matters most to you and your clients.
Benefits of NDC at WestJet
Once we go live, modernized pricing and all our fare classes will be delivered through NDC-enabled channels. At launch, NDC content will be available in the following points of sale: Canada, US, UK and Mexico. By adopting NDC, you’ll be able to access a range of benefits designed to enhance the selling and servicing experience:
Modernized pricing
Access our best available pricing and exclusive discounts with NDC. Pricing in NDC channels will be aligned with what’s offered on westjet.com.
More than just fares
Modernized pricing will be available across ancillary services including checked bags and pre-reserved seat selection.
NDC incentives
Receive industry-competitive incentives when you connect via Direct NDC APIs and SPRK.
Access UltraBasic fares
Our lowest-priced fare bundle will be exclusively available via NDC channels to give you more choice.
No distribution cost recovery surcharge
Get more value from your NDC bookings. The DCR surcharge will apply to non-NDC bookings on the lowest class per cabin, ranging from $20-$22 USD.
Testing and enhancements
Delivering a stable, reliable product at launch is a top priority. We’ve been working closely with an external vendor to execute extensive testing, resolve issues and support improvements for future releases. Between October and December 2025, more than 1,000 test cases were completed as part of product release testing.
At launch, NDC will offer servicing capabilities comparable to EDIFACT with additional automated solutions delivered through a more streamlined experience. Capabilities will include automated exchanges and refunds (CAT 31/33) and True Reshop. These capabilities will complement modernized pricing across fares, seats and bags. For a detailed view of what will be available at launch and beyond, please refer to our NDC capabilities list to help determine which NDC version best aligns with your business needs.
How to connect
We remain committed to giving you flexibility and choice in how you connect. NDC-enabled channels continue to be tested with a closed user group ahead of launch. A phased activation schedule is outlined below, with additional aggregators planned to join throughout 2026. When we go live, WestJet NDC content will be available in all GDS.
- Accelya: Direct Connect testing began Q4 2025
- Sabre: Testing began Q4 2025
- Coming soon in Q2 2026: Amadeus, Travelport & Travelfusion
