Whether you’re just getting started or need clarification on specific processes, these FAQs will help you navigate your NDC journey with confidence.
Timelines
We intend to roll out NDC in Q4 of 2026. Once live, we will have NDC connectivity with the three largest GDS platforms WestJet works with today (Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport), aggregators like TravelFusion and a direct connect option. We’re carefully working through each phase of our journey and our partners play an important part in this process. Thanks to feedback and collaboration from our travel partners, we’re refining our offerings to ensure our NDC product provides the most competitive fares and comprehensive ancillary options.
We started working on NDC in 2023 with the goal of delivering a product that adds value to your business. At WestJet, NDC is a journey, not a race and we’re taking the time to do it right. To meet this target, we’re currently working closely with our technology partners to ensure you will be able to connect through the channel of your choice. We’re also in the process of testing functionality and product enhancements with a specialist third-party company and a closed group of test partner agencies. This phase will help ensure API stability and a quality product when we go live.
When we launch NDC, it will be available in the three GDS platforms WestJet works with today (Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport) as well as the aggregator, TravelFusion, to ensure we deliver on our commitment to providing you with the channel of your choice.
Content & capabilities
We are prioritizing the inclusion of self-serve post-booking functionalities for NDC bookings to ensure a seamless guest experience. We will also be counting on your feedback to help us determine the functionality that is of the highest value to you. To find the latest WestJet-supported NDC capabilities, please refer to our product roadmap. At launch, NDC will include enhanced servicing capabilities such as automated exchanges and refunds (CAT 31/33) and True Reshop.
Private fares can be distributed via NDC and our technology provider, Accelya, has already successfully done this with other carriers. We will work closely with Accelya, the GDS, aggregators and test partners to ensure that our private fares are functioning as designed as we move towards our NDC strategy launch.
Travel partners who integrate with WestJet’s Direct Connect API will be eligible for incentives at launch.
Yes. Once NDC launches, modernized pricing and all fare classes will be delivered through NDC-enabled channels. Specifically, UltraBasic fares will be exclusively available through NDC channels. Modernized pricing will also extend to ancillary products such as checked bags and pre-reserved seat selection.
Yes. As part of WestJet’s transition toward modernized distribution, a Distribution Cost Recovery (DCR) fee will apply to non-NDC bookings on the lowest class per cabin. The surcharge will range from $20–$22 USD and will apply in markets where NDC content is available. Please refer to the benefits matrix for the most up-to-date list of applicable points of sale. Further details will be provided closer to our launch date.
Support
An important part of WestJet’s NDC journey is ensuring you are properly supported. There will be support available if you require assistance with your NDC bookings. More details around the support process and how to access it will be communicated as we approach our Q4 2026 launch. We recommend visiting this page often as it will be updated regularly with new information.
WestJet invested heavily in developing a robust NDC servicing experience for our agency partners. At launch, agencies will have access to the majority of servicing capabilities available today through EDIFACT, with continued enhancements and new functionality being introduced through future releases.
Yes. Supported servicing capabilities will vary by technology partner, NDC version and connection method. Partners connecting directly with WestJet via our NDC APIs and/or SPRK will have access to the broadest range of self-serve servicing capabilities as soon as WestJet makes them available. Functionality available through GDS and aggregator partners may differ and, in some cases, may require additional development time based on each partner’s implementation roadmap and release timelines.
We encourage agencies to regularly review our NDC capabilities page, which allows you to compare capabilities across each connection method for the latest information on supported servicing elements.
